Colleen has to be the luckiest person I know and I am the most pessimistic...
These are both statements I knew long before last night but they were confirmed as Colleen and I attempted to attend a sold out book signing last night. A few months ago, I saw that the author of the Series of Unfortunate Events would be in Seattle signing his 13th and final book in his series. I knew Colleen had read all the books at least once and would love to attend so I put the day the tickets went on sale on my calendar. When the day arrived,I went to get tickets and found they had sold out almost immediately. I was so disappointed. I bought the book for Colleen and she finished it in 4 days. I told Colleen I would check Craig's list and if we didn't get tickets we would just go and see if anyone had any extra the night of the event. The only thing on Craig's list were 20 or 30 entries begging for tickets. People saying they would pay $25/$50 for a ticket. These tickets were originally $5. So by my prediction the chances of getting in last night to see this reading and book signing were about less than 1%.I asked her before we left if she wanted to try to get in still. She said "yes". We got there at 5:55 - the event started at 6:00 and there are only about three people waiting outside. No luck. I said "let's go" and Colleen said "no let's just wait a few more minutes." A few minutes later a woman peeked her head out the door and asked us if we are waiting to get in. I said "we were just hoping someone would have an extra ticket". She says "you're in luck!". Wow we made it inside! Then after the reading and musical production which was fantastic, everyone with "A" signing tickets got in line. Colleen got in line about 40 people back without a signing ticket. As she moved closer and closer to the signing table she somehow achieved an "A" ticket from a very nice woman who happened to have an extra? She got to meet the author and get her booked signed! As we are leaving the 100 people in the "B" line start lining up. There was also a "C" line. I honestly think there were around 300 people there last night. Wow what a wonderful evening for Colleen.
Last night I learned that I am way too pessimistic and that there is always hope.
I also really hope that the rest of Colleen's life continues to follow this charmed path...I really hope you can't read the pessimism in that comment...please forgive me, I'm still learning...
